# Best Travel Power Bank for Flying and International Trips (2026)

The best travel power bank for most people is the Anker Power Bank 20K 87W. It holds 20,000 mAh (about 74 Wh, under the 100 Wh airline limit), charges an iPhone 17 about three times, puts out 65 W from one port for a laptop and has its own USB-C cable, so nothing gets left at home. If you fly with a laptop, the UGREEN Nexode 25K 145W holds 25,000 mAh under the 100 Wh limit and delivers 140 W from a single port. If you only need to keep a phone alive, the INIU 10K 45W costs about $24, and its 10K line is among the banks travelers on Reddit name most often.

Flying with a power bank changed in 2026. Since 27 March 2026, ICAO rules limit each passenger to two power banks, ban recharging a bank from the seat power and advise against using one to charge a phone during the flight. Emirates, Singapore Airlines, Cathay Pacific, Lufthansa, Qantas and more than 20 other airlines now ban in-flight use outright. Every pick in this guide is under 100 Wh, so it goes through security in a carry-on anywhere in the world.

This guide compares 15 travel power banks sold on Amazon in the US by capacity, watt-hours, output, weight and price. It covers the 2026 airline rules for 47 regulators and airlines, a watt-hour calculator, the power bank recalls of 2025 and 2026, the best travel charger and plug adapter to pair with a bank and what travelers recommend in 138 Reddit threads.

**Quick answer:** the Anker 20K 87W is the best travel power bank overall. The UGREEN Nexode 25K 145W is the best for flying with a laptop. The INIU 10K 45W is the budget pick at about $24. Any bank rated 100 Wh or less flies in your carry-on without airline approval; no power bank may go in checked luggage.

## What changed for power banks on planes in 2026

Three rules now apply on most flights, and the first two are new this year:

- **Two power banks per person.** ICAO’s addendum to the dangerous goods rules applies from 27 March 2026. The UK, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Singapore, Korea and Japan wrote the same limit into national rules between March and April 2026. Southwest, Emirates, flydubai and Etihad allow only one.
- **No recharging the bank on board.** ICAO and IATA bar charging a power bank from the aircraft’s power, and most airlines in Asia, the Middle East and Europe now ban using a bank at all during the flight.
- **Carry-on only, 100 Wh without approval.** A power bank is a spare lithium battery, so it never goes in checked luggage. Up to 100 Wh needs no approval; 101 to 160 Wh needs the airline’s approval; over 160 Wh is forbidden. IATA drops the 101 to 160 Wh approval route for power banks from 1 January 2027, and Japan Airlines says its 160 Wh limit may fall to 100 Wh the same month.

ICAO cites a January 2025 cabin fire that likely started with a lithium battery in an overhead bin. IATA’s 2026 guidance says power banks should not be stored in the overhead lockers, and in July 2025 a power bank in a backpack in a Virgin Australia overhead locker went into thermal runaway about 10 minutes before landing. Keep the bank in the seat pocket or a bag under the seat, where you or the crew can reach it.

## The best travel power banks of 2026

Prices are Amazon US prices on October 13, 2026. Capacities, outputs and weights are the makers’ figures from the listing; where a listing prints no watt-hour rating, the card shows the figure at 3.7 V and marks it as computed. Every pick is under 100 Wh. The picks are in rank order, and each one is matched to a job:

- **Phone only, day trips:** INIU 10K 45W, Nitecore NB10000 or Anker Nano 5K.
- **iPhone, no cable:** UGREEN MagFlow 10K Qi2 or Anker Nano Magnetic 5K.
- **Laptop on the plane:** UGREEN Nexode 25K 145W, Anker Laptop 25K 165W, INIU 25K 100W or Anker Prime 26K 300W.
- **Long-haul and two or more devices:** Anker 20K 87W or UGREEN Nexode 20K 45W.
- **China domestic flights:** Baseus 20K 45W, the only pick whose listing states a 3C (CCC) mark.
- **One fewer thing to pack:** Anker Nano 3-in-1, a power bank and a wall charger in one.
- **Under $30:** INIU 10K 45W, INIU 20K 22.5W, Anker 10K 30W or Anker Nano 5K.

*Southwest, Delta and American still allow a power bank in use on the tray table; Emirates, Singapore Airlines and most Asian airlines ban in-flight use.*

### Best travel power bank overall: Anker 20K 87W

The Anker 20K 87W does the most travel jobs in one body. Its 20,000 mAh (about 74 Wh) gives roughly three iPhone 17 charges or most of a MacBook Air charge, and one port delivers 65 W, which Anker says takes a MacBook Air to about 52% in 30 minutes. A built-in USB-C cable plus a USB-C and a USB-A port charge three devices at once. TechRadar names it the best compact power bank for phones and laptops. At 431 g (15.2 oz) it is heavier than a 10K bank, and travelers in the Reddit threads we read call 20K more than a phone-only trip needs. It costs about $60.

### Best power bank for flying with a laptop: UGREEN Nexode 25K 145W

The UGREEN Nexode 25K holds 25,000 mAh, which comes to 90 to 92.5 Wh depending on the cell voltage, so it flies without airline approval. One USB-C port delivers 140 W, enough for a 16-inch MacBook Pro, and its two USB-C ports and one USB-A port share 145 W. That is about one full MacBook Air 13 charge or four iPhone charges. TechRadar Australia picks it as its best power bank for travel. It weighs 505 g, reviewers report heat above 100 W of output, and its 65 W input takes about two hours to refill. It has no built-in cable. It costs about $80.

Best power bank for flying with a laptop

UGREEN Nexode 25K 145W

**Best for:** A 16 in laptop and a phone on a flight, in one bank under 100 Wh.

The UGREEN PB205 holds 25,000 mAh, about 92.5 Wh at 3.7 V, so it fits the 100 Wh limit. One USB-C port outputs up to 140 W and the total is 145 W, which UGREEN says takes a 16 in MacBook Pro to 56% in 30 minutes. It recharges at up to 65 W in about 2 hours.

- No built-in cable; a 5 A USB-C cable is in the box
- Reviewers report it runs hot at 100 W and above

Wh is computed at 3.7 V; the listing prints no Wh figure. The listing counts 3 ports in its title and lists 2 USB-C and 1 USB-A in its spec row. The 70 g "Battery Weight" row is an error; 505 g is the item weight.

### Lightest 10,000 mAh power bank: Nitecore NB10000

The Nitecore NB10000 is the bank Reddit names most for travel: 48 of the 138 threads we read, from r/onebag to r/ultralight. The Gen 4 weighs 4.94 oz (140 g), measures 4.57 x 1.84 x 0.81 in and is rated IPX7 against water. Both USB-C ports charge and recharge at 22.5 W, and the lanyard doubles as a USB-C cable. That is enough for phones, earbuds and cameras but too slow for a laptop. It costs about $84, more than three times the INIU 10K, and the Gen 4 listing has few ratings so far. Reddit owners of earlier generations report units that failed within one to two years.

 [![Nitecore NB10000 Gen4 Power Bank](https://33travels.com/wp-content/uploads/travel-power-banks/nitecore-nb10000.webp)](https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0H61KHJ1X?tag=33travels-20&ascsubtag=best-travel-power-bank) #4

Nitecore NB10000 Gen4

**Best for:** A phone on a hike or a flight when weight matters more than price.

The Nitecore NB10000 Gen4 holds 10,000 mAh, about 37 Wh, and weighs 140 g (4.94 oz) at 116 x 47 x 21 mm. Both USB-C ports take 22.5 W in and out, and the case is rated IPX7. A lanyard that works as a USB-C cable ships in the box. Amazon lists it from a third-party seller, Lumen Tactical.

- TypePocket power bank
- Capacity10,000 mAh
- Energy37 Wh computed from mAh (3.7 V) Carry-on OK (under 100 Wh)
- Output22.5 W max, 22.5 W single port
- Recharge input22.5 W in
- Ports2 USB-C
- ExtrasPass-through charging
- Weight140 g (4.9 oz)
- Size116 x 47 x 21 mm (4.6 x 1.9 x 0.8 in)

Pros

- 140 g, the lightest 10,000 mAh bank in this guide
- IPX7 rating and 22.5 W in and out on both USB-C ports
- Pass-through charging and a lanyard USB-C cable included

Cons

- $84, more than three times the price of the INIU 10,000 mAh bank
- Sold by a third-party seller, not by Nitecore or Amazon
- 22.5 W output is too low for a laptop

Wh is computed at 3.7 V. The listing gives 4.94 oz in the text and 5 oz in the spec row; 140 g is used. The lanyard cable is included, not built in. Most Reddit threads about the NB10000 cover the Gen 2 and Gen 3; no professional review of the Gen4 was found.

### Best power bank for international travel and China: Baseus 20K 45W

China’s civil aviation authority has barred power banks without a clear 3C (CCC) mark from domestic flights since 28 June 2025, and travelers in 40 of the Reddit threads we read raise the rule. The Baseus 20K 45W (model E00311) is the only pick whose Amazon listing states a CCC certification. It has two built-in USB-C cables plus a USB-C and a USB-A port, charges four devices at once, recharges at 30 W and costs about $32. It is a phone and tablet bank: the listing marks it phone only for laptops. Baseus recalled other models in the past, so match the model number E00311 before you buy. No professional review of this model exists yet.

 [![Baseus 20000mAh 45W CCC Power Bank (E00311)](https://33travels.com/wp-content/uploads/travel-power-banks/baseus-20k-45w-ccc.webp)](https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0G4MNXP2L?tag=33travels-20&ascsubtag=best-travel-power-bank) #5

Best power bank for international travel and China

Baseus 20K 45W CCC

**Best for:** Flights that include China, with 20,000 mAh and two built-in cables.

The Baseus E00311 is the only pick whose listing states CCC certification, the 3C mark that China requires on power banks for domestic flights since 28 June 2025. It holds 20,000 mAh, about 74 Wh, and outputs 45 W through two built-in USB-C cables, a USB-C port and a USB-A port.

- TypeEveryday power bank
- Capacity20,000 mAh
- Energy74 Wh computed from mAh (3.7 V) Carry-on OK (under 100 Wh)
- Output45 W max, 45 W single port
- Recharge input30 W in
- Ports1 USB-C, 1 USB-A
- Built-in cableUSB-C
- ExtrasDisplay, Pass-through charging
- Weight363 g (12.8 oz)
- Size109 x 66 x 30 mm (4.3 x 2.6 x 1.2 in)
- 3C markYes

Pros

- Listing states CCC certification, which China domestic flights require
- Two built-in USB-C cables plus a USB-C and a USB-A port, 4 devices at once
- 20,000 mAh at $32, with 30 W input and pass-through charging

Cons

- The listing's own table marks it phone only for laptop charging
- Baseus recalled other models; confirm model E00311 and the printed capacity

Wh is computed at 3.7 V. The listing text gives 12.8 oz (363 g) and the spec row gives 200 g; 363 g is used because a 74 Wh battery weighs more than 200 g. The listing's FAQ asks whether the unit label reads 10,000 mAh; check the capacity printed on the unit. No battery chemistry is stated.

Price $31 to $70 [Check price on Amazon](https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0G4MNXP2L?tag=33travels-20&ascsubtag=best-travel-power-bank)

### Best magnetic power bank for iPhone: UGREEN MagFlow 10K Qi2

The UGREEN MagFlow snaps onto the back of an iPhone and charges it wirelessly at 25 W on iPhone 16 and newer (15 W on iPhone 12 to 15). A built-in 30 W USB-C cable doubles as a wrist strap and charges a second device. TechRadar picks it as its best compact fast charger and Cult of Mac ranks it first. Wireless charging loses energy as heat, so expect fewer than the 1.6 iPhone charges a wired 10K bank gives. At 254 g and 0.83 in thick it is heavy for a magnetic bank, and reviewers say it runs warm. It costs about $63.

 [![UGREEN MagFlow 10000mAh Qi2 25W Power Bank (PB773)](https://33travels.com/wp-content/uploads/travel-power-banks/ugreen-magflow-10k-qi2.webp)](https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0F37VLJQW?tag=33travels-20&ascsubtag=best-travel-power-bank) #6

### Best power bank with a built-in cable: Anker 10K 30W

A built-in cable is the cable you cannot forget. The Anker 10K 30W has a 5.4 in USB-C cable that Anker rates for 10,000 bends, plus a USB-C and a USB-A port and a digital display that shows the charge left. One port delivers 30 W, enough to fast-charge a phone or top up an iPad. Total output falls to 15 W when several ports are in use, and its 20 W input takes about 2.5 hours to refill. It weighs 223 g and costs about $30.

The Anker Nano 3-in-1 replaces two items: it is a 10,000 mAh power bank, a 30 W wall charger with folding prongs and a built-in USB-C cable in one 250 g body. Plugged into an outlet it works as a wall charger, which suits hotel rooms with one free outlet. The prongs are the US type, so it needs a plug adapter in Europe, the UK and most of Asia. It costs about $53, against $30 for the Anker 10K 30W without prongs.

## How many charges you get from each power bank

A power bank never delivers its rated capacity. Voltage conversion and heat lose part of the energy, and Anker’s own worked example puts the usable share near 70%. The table uses 65%, divides the usable watt-hours by the battery of each device and rounds down. A 10,000 mAh bank gives about 1.6 charges of an iPhone 17, a 20,000 mAh bank about 3.3 and a 25,000 mAh bank about one full charge of a MacBook Air 13.

Device battery sizes: Efficiency 0.65 is the share of a bank's rated Wh that ends up stored in a device battery. Anker's support page gives 80 to 85% circuit efficiency and about 15% device-side charging loss, which nets to about 70% (51.6 of 74 Wh for a 20,000 mAh bank). The Hong Kong Consumer Council's 74% figure is only the 3.7 V to 5 V mAh ratio (3.7/5), not an energy loss, and its lab test still found 3 of 30 banks more than 40% short of rated energy. 0.65 sits below Anker's best-case 70% to allow for cheaper banks, cold and cable losses, and charge counts are floored to one decimal. Device Wh come from Apple tech specs (iPad, MacBook), the EU energy label mAh (iPhones), Samsung's press spec sheet and Nintendo's spec page; where only mAh is public the Wh is mAh x 3.85 V / 1000 for phones and mAh x 3.7 V / 1000 for the Switch 2, and each source line says so. ## Can you bring a power bank on a plane?

Yes. Every airline accepts power banks in the cabin within the watt-hour limits, and none accepts them in checked luggage. The limits are set by ICAO and applied by each country’s regulator, and airlines can be stricter.

### Carry-on only, never checked

A power bank counts as a spare lithium battery. The FAA, TSA, ICAO and IATA all require spare lithium batteries in carry-on bags, where the crew can deal with a fire. If an agent tags your carry-on for the hold at the gate, take the power bank out first.

### How many mAh is 100 Wh?

At the 3.7 V most power bank cells use, 100 Wh is about 27,000 mAh (27,027 mAh), and 160 Wh is about 43,200 mAh. Banks sold as 26,800 or 27,650 mAh sit right at the line: 27,650 mAh at 3.7 V is 102.3 Wh, but Anker rates its Prime 27,650 at 99.54 Wh because it uses 3.6 V. Go by the watt-hours printed on the bank. A bank with no readable rating can be refused at security.

Enter the capacity of any bank to see its watt-hours and whether it flies:

### Are TSA approved power banks a real thing?

No. Neither the TSA nor the FAA approves or certifies individual power banks. A listing that says “TSA approved” or “airline approved” means only that the bank is under 100 Wh. The label decides, not the listing.

### Can you use a power bank during a flight?

It depends on the airline. Since March 2026 ICAO bars recharging a power bank from the seat power and advises against using a bank to charge devices on board. Southwest, Delta, American, Ryanair, Air New Zealand and Philippine Airlines still allow use with conditions, such as keeping the bank in view. Emirates, Singapore Airlines, Cathay Pacific, the Lufthansa Group, KLM, Turkish, Qantas and most Asian airlines ban it. Charge your phone at the gate and treat the bank as backup on the ground.

### Power banks on domestic flights in China

Since 28 June 2025, China bars power banks with no 3C (CCC) mark, an unreadable mark or a recalled model or batch from domestic flights. Most banks sold in the US carry no 3C mark. If your trip includes a domestic Chinese flight, carry a bank with the mark, such as the Baseus 20K 45W above, or buy one in China.

## Power bank rules by airline (2026)

The table lists the rules of 13 regulators and 34 airlines, each checked on the official page on October 13, 2026. Type an airline’s name to filter the table. Rules change often; check your airline’s page before you fly.

*IATA’s 2026 guidance says power banks should not go in the overhead lockers. The seat pocket keeps a bank where you can reach it.*

## Recalled power banks: check the model number

Power banks were recalled in large numbers in 2025 and 2026, and some recalled models are still listed for sale by third-party sellers. Check the model number printed on your bank against the CPSC notice; for most recalls only certain serial numbers or batches are affected. A recalled bank is also barred from domestic flights in China, and Air Canada names three recalled Anker models as prohibited on board.

| Date | Brand and model | Units in the US | CPSC recall |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| 12 June 2025 | Anker PowerCore 10000, model A1263 | about 1,158,000 | 25-338 |
| 18 September 2025 | Anker models A1257, A1647, A1652, A1681 and A1689 (including Zolo 20K) | about 481,000 | 25-466 |
| 13 November 2025 | Belkin BPB002 (serials starting 35S) and PB0003 | about 83,500 | 26-090 |
| 5 December 2025 | INIU BI-B41 10,000 mAh (serials 000G21, 000H21, 000I21, 000L21) | about 210,000 | 26-135 |
| 16 April 2026 | Casely Power Pods 5000 mAh MagSafe, model E33A (re-announced) | about 429,200 | 26-418 |
| 24 September 2026 | NEWDERY ZHX-PB22, sold on Amazon | about 21,380 | 26-792 |

None of the 15 picks matches a recalled model number. Amazon still lists Anker Zolo 20K banks whose spec rows show model A1689, which is on the September 2025 recall list; this guide does not recommend any Zolo 20K.

## Best power bank for international travel

A power bank works the same in every country because it charges over USB. The difference abroad is the wall charger that refills it. Apple’s USB-C adapters, and nearly every phone and laptop charger, are rated for 100 to 240 V, so a plug adapter is all you need; a voltage converter is only for single-voltage appliances such as some hair dryers and irons.

For international trips, choose a bank that:

- **Prints its watt-hours** on the label, since travelers report capacity checks at Asian airports more often than in the US.
- **Stays under 100 Wh,** because some airlines and countries still allow banks up to 160 Wh but many cap them at 100 Wh, and IATA drops the 160 Wh route in January 2027.
- **Carries a 3C mark** if you fly within China.
- **Recharges fast** (30 W input or more), so it refills during a short hotel night.

## Best travel charger to pair with a power bank

“Travel charger” means two things, and you need both: a power bank for the day and a wall charger for the night. A GaN wall charger with swappable plugs refills the bank, the phone and a laptop from one outlet. A universal adapter with USB-C ports covers more countries. These are the chargers, adapters, cables and pouches that go with the picks above.

The travel kit

- UGREEN 65W 3-port GaN travel charger (CD296) A 65 W GaN wall charger with switchable US, UK and EU plugs, 2 USB-C ports, 1 USB-A port and 100 to 240 V input. It weighs 200 g and recharges the bank and a laptop from one outlet. The plug set does not cover Australia. [Check price](https://www.amazon.com/dp/B09X1H88VP?tag=33travels-20&ascsubtag=best-travel-power-bank)
- EPICKA universal travel adapter (TA-105+) A plug adapter for Type A, C, G and I sockets with 3 USB-C ports, 2 USB-A ports and one AC socket, at 145 g (5.1 oz). It does not convert voltage and does not fit South Africa or India. [Check price](https://www.amazon.com/dp/B078S3M2NX?tag=33travels-20&ascsubtag=best-travel-power-bank)
- Anker Nano travel adapter, 2 USB-C 20W (A9215) A plug adapter for Type A, C, G and I sockets that measures 86 x 50 x 25 mm and weighs 107 g. It has 2 USB-C ports, 2 USB-A ports and one 2-pin AC outlet; the USB ports share 20 W. [Check price](https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0DHVNW1CN?tag=33travels-20&ascsubtag=best-travel-power-bank)
- INIU 240W USB-C cable, 1 ft x 2 Two 1 ft braided USB-C to USB-C cables rated for 240 W. A short cable lets a bank without a built-in cable sit in the same pocket as the phone. [Check price](https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0DHJQLGPB?tag=33travels-20&ascsubtag=best-travel-power-bank)
- FYY electronics organizer pouch A 7.5 x 4.3 x 2.2 in pouch with 8 compartments for the bank, a charger and cables. Cables stay off the bank's ports and terminals inside a bag. [Check price](https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0924H4XB9?tag=33travels-20&ascsubtag=best-travel-power-bank)

![Travel wall charger with interchangeable plugs next to a power bank and a coiled USB-C cable](https://33travels.com/wp-content/uploads/travel-power-banks/assets/adapter.webp)

*A 65 W GaN charger refills a laptop bank in about two hours; a plug adapter is enough abroad because USB chargers take 100 to 240 V.*

## How to choose a travel power bank

**Capacity.** 5,000 mAh (about 18 Wh) covers most of one phone charge and suits a day out. 10,000 mAh (37 Wh) gives about 1.5 phone charges and is the size most travelers carry. 20,000 mAh (74 Wh) covers a long-haul day or two devices. 25,000 mAh (90 to 99 Wh) is for laptops and is the most that flies without airline approval.

**Output.** A phone fast-charges at 20 to 30 W. A tablet wants 30 W or more. A laptop needs at least 30 W, and 60 to 100 W from one port charges most laptops at full speed. Check the single-port figure, not only the total.

**Cables and ports.** A built-in cable removes the cable you forget. Two or more USB-C ports let you charge a phone and earbuds together. Magnetic Qi2 banks need no cable but lose a share of the energy as heat.

**Weight.** Expect about 100 g for a 5K bank, 140 to 255 g for a 10K bank, 315 to 470 g for a 20K bank and 390 to 600 g for a laptop bank.

**Safety.** Buy a known brand, check the model number against recall notices and replace any bank that swells, gets hot at rest or smells of solvent.

## What Reddit recommends

We read 138 threads from 2024 to 2026 in r/onebag, r/travel, r/HerOneBag, r/digitalnomad, r/anker, r/UsbCHardware and other travel and hardware forums. The Nitecore NB10000, Anker’s magnetic banks and INIU’s 10K banks are named most. Anker is still named first for its warranty and its public recall process, but posters in 2025 and 2026 threads report slow replacements and higher prices, and many moved to INIU, UGREEN or Baseus. The most repeated advice: a 10K bank is enough for a phone-only trip, stay under 100 Wh, and carry a 3C-marked bank for domestic flights in China.

What Reddit recommends

We read 138 Reddit threads on travel power banks (collected 2026-10-13) and counted which power banks came up. Paraphrased, no usernames.

1. 1[Nitecore NB10000 Gen4](#tpb-nitecore-nb10000)48 threads The most-named pocket 10K, and the weight leader: the lightest and thinnest 10,000 mAh bank, wired only, the default for ultralight and thru-hike packs, brought on every trip by several users. Gen 3 added dual USB-C and about 22.5 W input and removed a standby quirk of Gen 2. Complaints: price for the capacity, quality control and durability (some units died within one to two years and were replaced), a Gen 2 with a bulge, one owner says it drains itself while idle or with a cable left plugged in, and a 2024 thread asking why it delivered about half its rated mAh (answer: nominal cell voltage, about 32 Wh rated). Counts include Gen 2, 3, 4 and unspecified "Nitecore 10K" mentions. 2. 2[INIU 10K 45W](#tpb-iniu-10k-45w)32 threads The most-named budget alternative to Anker. Counts cover INIU 10K models in general; the Reddit favourite is the lighter P50 "Pocket Rocket" (45 W, about 160 g, short cable strap), not the P41. Owners praise value, accurate rated capacity and the small size; Consumer Reports is cited as recommending the 22.5 W 10K. Complaints: older units have one USB-C and two USB-A ports, one owner reports an INIU recall, the 22.5 W 10K is bulkier than a Nitecore, and the USB-A port would not wake a low-current headlamp. 3. 3Anker MagGo magnetic power banks (Qi2)Not in our picks32 threads Anker MagGo and Zolo magnetic Qi2/MagSafe banks (5K and 10K) are the iPhone default: snap on, no cable. Critics report slower speed, heat, extra thickness and roughly a third of the charge lost to wireless inefficiency. Some MagGo models (A1642, A1647, A1652) were in the October 2024 recall, so check the model number. Counts include "Anker MagSafe" mentions that name no size. 4. 4Anker 737 PowerCore 24K (140 W)Not in our picks22 threads PowerCore 24K (140 W, A1289) is the long-running laptop bank: carried on Japan, Korea and Australia flights without a challenge. Users call it a brick; one reports three years of abuse, another a unit that would not run after sitting three years, and a reviewer called it flawed under sustained load. One thread calls the current Prime series its updated version. [Search on Amazon](https://www.amazon.com/s?k=Anker+737+power+bank+24K+140W&tag=33travels-20&ascsubtag=best-travel-power-bank)
5. 5Belkin BoostCharge integrated-cable banksNot in our picks21 threads Belkin BoostCharge 10K/20K with integrated cables is named as a safe, known brand and as the one that stayed in a bag at Chinese security while a no-brand bank was taken. Complaints: heavy for the capacity, and one owner lost a cable after about two years. Counts include brand-only mentions. 6. 6Baseus Picogo slim magnetic banksNot in our picks19 threads Slim 5K/10K magnetic and wired line (AM52 Qi2.2, AM71 Air, 10K 45 W, Ultra Mini). Owners call it thin, fast and cheap, about 207 g for the 10K; several say the AM52 holds the phone firmly and the Qi2.2 speed makes magnetic worth it, and one finds it faster than Anker MagGo. The AM71 Air is 6.8 mm thick with a CCC mark at $70. Few complaints; magnetic versions are still thicker than a plain wired bank. [Search on Amazon](https://www.amazon.com/s?k=Baseus+Picogo+magnetic+power+bank+10000mAh+Qi2&tag=33travels-20&ascsubtag=best-travel-power-bank)
7. 7[Anker 20K 87W](#tpb-anker-20k-87w)17 threads Counts cover the Anker 20K tier in general (PowerCore 20000 PD and the 20K 87 W with built-in cable); very few threads name the A1383. Owners report four to five years of service and call the 20K reliable, but bulky and heavy next to a Nitecore, and many call 20K overkill for a phone. One owner of the 87 W model likes it after years and would pick a 10K magnetic next. Complaints: size, one report that a newer 20K barely fills a phone, and one thread that blames weak cells in Anker 20K units. [Check price](https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0CXDXP8VR?tag=33travels-20&ascsubtag=best-travel-power-bank)[See our take](#tpb-anker-20k-87w)
8. 8[INIU 20K 22.5W](#tpb-iniu-20k-22w)16 threads INIU 20K is the budget 20K most often named (counts cover the 22.5 W "smallest 20K", the 45 W "mini 20K" and the 65 W P62 and 120 W versions). One owner says weight matched the advert at 11.4 oz; another prefers it to an Anker 20K at the same price; a traveler flew ten flights with the 120 W version without it being taken. Complaints: the 45 W model is not enough for laptops and long-term durability reports are few. 2. 10Xiaomi Mi power banksNot in our picks16 threads Counted mainly through Chinese-market advice: buy a Xiaomi (Mi) or Huawei bank on arrival in China, cheap and guaranteed CCC; older 10,000 mAh Mi banks are reported alive after ten years. ZMI/Cuktech lineage is cited as the source of good Chinese cells. Complaint: older models charge slowly and use micro-USB.
3. 11Nitecore NB Air 5000Not in our picks13 threads 5,000 mAh in about 89 g, the size of a TV remote. Ultralight and one-bag users call it the pocket bank they actually carry; one traveler tapes over the port, another carries two instead of one 10K. Complaint: only 5K and a cable is required. 4. 12[Anker Nano Magnetic 5K](#tpb-anker-nano-magnetic-5k)12 threads Anker 5K magnetic packs (Nano Magnetic, the older 321 MagSafe 5K, Anker MagSafe 5000) are the iPhone daily-carry default for day trips and one-bag travel: under half an inch thick, under half a pound, no cable. Several users say they carry nothing else. Critics report slower speed than a cable, heat, magnets that shift in pockets and losses from wireless charging. Counts also include threads that say "Anker 5K MagSafe" without the exact model. 5. 13Anker PowerCore 10000 (older, some recalled)Not in our picks12 threads PowerCore 10000/Redux/Fusion/Slim are compact and cheap but about 200 g against 150 g for a Nitecore. The PowerCore 10000 and Fusion appear in the June 2025 recall list; threads tell owners to check the serial number.
6. 14RAVPowerNot in our picks11 threads Mostly legacy praise: owners say RAVPower banks lasted for years; the brand was delisted from Amazon, so recommendations are historical.
7. 15[Anker 10K 30W](#tpb-anker-10k-30w-cable)10 threads The Nano 10K with 30 W and a built-in cable is the common answer for balance of weight, price and speed: about 230 g, charges a phone twice, half the price of a Nitecore. A MacBook Air gets a 20 to 30 percent top-up. Counts cover the A1637/A1638/A1688 family. Complaints: heavier than a Nitecore, and a built-in cable is a wear point. 9. 17mophie PowerstationNot in our picks10 threads Named as an older trusted brand (one claim it keeps charge for over a year) and for the XXL; a dual pack of 10K and 20K at retail for about $30. Little recent detail. [Search on Amazon](https://www.amazon.com/s?k=mophie+powerstation+power+bank&tag=33travels-20&ascsubtag=best-travel-power-bank)
10. 18Nitecore Carbo and Carbon 6KNot in our picks10 threads Carbo 10K/20K and the Carbon 6K use a carbon-fibre shell and are lighter than the NB line. Users describe the Carbo 10K as thin and safe-feeling and the Carbo 20 as a revelation for weight. Few long-term reports yet. [Search on Amazon](https://www.amazon.com/s?k=Nitecore+Carbon+6K+power+bank&tag=33travels-20&ascsubtag=best-travel-power-bank)
11. 19Sharge (Shargeek 170, IceMag)Not in our picks10 threads Shargeek 170 (24K, 88 Wh) and IceMag 2/3 (active cooling) are named by individual users; one bought a Sharge bank on Amazon after seeing a CCC mark. No consensus. [Search on Amazon](https://www.amazon.com/s?k=Sharge+IceMag+3+magnetic+power+bank&tag=33travels-20&ascsubtag=best-travel-power-bank)
12. 20[Anker Laptop 25K 165W](#tpb-anker-laptop-25k-165w)9 threads Anker 25K 165 W with two built-in cables (A1695, also sold as Zolo 25K): owners use it for work and trips; one found the CCC label on the underside and flew it in China; a US TSA officer flagged the 90 Wh unit and released it. Complaint: it throttles above 100 W. [Check price](https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0DCBB2YTR?tag=33travels-20&ascsubtag=best-travel-power-bank)[See our take](#tpb-anker-laptop-25k-165w)
13. 21Apple MagSafe Battery PackNot in our picks9 threads Apple MagSafe Battery Pack is praised as the slimmest option for the iPhone Air and for adding 20 to 30 percent; one reply says Apple pulled it from sale. Limited capacity; Apple banks are named as CCC-approved. [Search on Amazon](https://www.amazon.com/s?k=Apple+MagSafe+Battery+Pack&tag=33travels-20&ascsubtag=best-travel-power-bank)
14. 22Anker Prime 27,650 mAh (250 W)Not in our picks8 threads Prime 27,650 mAh (250 W, 99.5 Wh) is the high-end laptop bank that avoids throttling; an Amazon recall email sent to owners in 2024 was later said to be sent in error, and one unit stopped recharging after two months. [Search on Amazon](https://www.amazon.com/s?k=Anker+Prime+Power+Bank+27650mAh+250W&tag=33travels-20&ascsubtag=best-travel-power-bank)
15. 23[UGREEN Nexode 25K 145W](#tpb-ugreen-nexode-25k-145w)7 threads The Ugreen Nexode 25K family (145 W up to the 200 W model) is the main rival to the Anker Prime 300 W in one comparison thread, and daily-carry owners are satisfied. One reply prefers a Sharge model if built-in cables matter. Complaints: heavy, few hands-on reports, less consistent than Anker in one view. Counts cover the 140 W, 145 W and 200 W variants. 16. 24[UGREEN MagFlow 10K Qi2](#tpb-ugreen-magflow-10k-qi2)7 threads Ugreen MagFlow 10K with attached cable and magnet; one owner loves it, another notes the MagFlow Pro cooling plate, and a technical-questions thread exists. Ugreen is named as a cheaper Anker equal for iPhone magnetic banks. Complaint: wireless charging runs warm. [Check price](https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0F37VLJQW?tag=33travels-20&ascsubtag=best-travel-power-bank)[See our take](#tpb-ugreen-magflow-10k-qi2)
17. 25[Anker Nano 3-in-1](#tpb-anker-nano-3-in-1)7 threads The Nano 3-in-1 10K (folding wall plug, 30 W) lets owners drop a separate bank and wall brick; one replaced a 20K PowerCore and a 100 W Prime charger with it, another charges it from the wall and uses it as a charger abroad. Pass-through charging is liked. One thread warns that combo wall-plug banks heat repeatedly (an Anker 733 caught fire). 18. 26Anker Prime 20K (220 W)Not in our picks7 threads Prime 20K (220 W) used for phone plus laptop at about 1.1 lb; a one-month review thread exists. One owner reports a unit that died after sitting unused, another carries it for international flights (72 Wh). [Search on Amazon](https://www.amazon.com/s?k=Anker+Prime+Power+Bank+20000mAh+220W&tag=33travels-20&ascsubtag=best-travel-power-bank)
19. 27Flextail Zero 10KNot in our picks7 threads Flextail Zero 10K (about 145 g, two USB-C, short cable strap, about $50) is pitched as a Nitecore alternative at half the price; owners say two of them beat one 20K. One thread calls the evidence thin; a USB-A port would not charge a low-current device. [Search on Amazon](https://www.amazon.com/s?k=Flextail+Zero+power+bank+10000mAh&tag=33travels-20&ascsubtag=best-travel-power-bank)
20. 28Torras Minimag and slim banksNot in our picks7 threads Torras Minimag 5K magnetic and a 10K with built-in cable get short praise: slim, compact, does not get hot, used for months. Several of these comments read like promotion, so treat the count as soft. [Search on Amazon](https://www.amazon.com/s?k=Torras+Minimag+magnetic+power+bank+5000mAh&tag=33travels-20&ascsubtag=best-travel-power-bank)
21. 29[UGREEN Nexode 20K 45W](#tpb-ugreen-nexode-20k-45w)6 threads Counts cover Ugreen 20K Nexode banks of 45 to 130 W with built-in cables, flown by several travelers (100 W 20K "flew a lot"). Ugreen as a group is named a solid cheaper Anker alternative. Complaint: less consistent than Anker in one view. 22. 30[INIU 25K 100W](#tpb-iniu-25k-100w)6 threads INIU 25K to 27K models (P63, P75, B64; 100 to 140 W) are named as a small, light laptop bank for the spec: about 11 x 7 x 3.5 cm with a strap that doubles as a cable; one owner also runs a CPAP from it. Weight is around 400 g. Counts cover the whole INIU 25K line. [Check price](https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0DBHC9F8B?tag=33travels-20&ascsubtag=best-travel-power-bank)[See our take](#tpb-iniu-25k-100w)
23. 31[Anker Prime 26K 300W](#tpb-anker-prime-26k-300w)6 threads Prime 26K 300 W (99.75 Wh) is the "biggest legal" pick: one traveler flew it ten-plus times without trouble and another expects it to last a decade. It is brick-sized and pricey. Laptop users disagree on speed: one says a 16-inch MacBook Pro charges as fast as from the wall, another says the 300 W model throttles under 100 W within minutes. 25. 33Lisen CCC-marked banksNot in our picks6 threads Lisen comes up in China threads as one of the few Amazon brands with a CCC mark printed on the device; one traveler had a Lisen P301 examined and returned at a domestic China check. A 5K ultra-slim MagSafe and a 65 W 10K are also named; one comment is from a Lisen employee. 27. 35Baseus 20K laptop banks (65 W to 145 W)Not in our picks5 threads Older Baseus 20K laptop banks (65 W and 145 W) get praise: one owner has used the 65 W since 2023, another says the 145 W charges a MacBook Pro in 1.5 hours and stays cool. The newer 45 W CCC model is counted separately. [Search on Amazon](https://www.amazon.com/s?k=Baseus+20000mAh+65W+power+bank&tag=33travels-20&ascsubtag=best-travel-power-bank)
28. 36Baseus Blade 20K 100 WNot in our picks5 threads Flat 20K 100 W bank; an Asian-airline traveler flew with it and others like the pocket-friendly shape for laptops. Heavier than a 10K at about 490 g in one comparison. [Search on Amazon](https://www.amazon.com/s?k=Baseus+Blade+power+bank+100W+20000mAh&tag=33travels-20&ascsubtag=best-travel-power-bank)

Cuktech is sold on Amazon US. [Search on Amazon](https://www.amazon.com/s?k=CUKTECH+10+power+bank+100W+10000mAh&tag=33travels-20&ascsubtag=best-travel-power-bank)
30. 38Cuktech 15 (Air, SE, Ultra)Not in our picks4 threads Cuktech 15 Air and SE are named in China threads as CCC-certified banks sold on Amazon US; the 15 Ultra (140 W) is one of the few that holds near full output before throttling in one laptop thread. Tips that keep coming up

- China domestic flights (and often transit security) require the CCC/3C mark; unmarked banks are confiscated, and buying a Mi, Huawei or CCC-marked bank is the safe route 40 threads
- A 10,000 mAh bank is the recommended size for phone-only travel; a 5K is enough for a day out 33 threads
- Stay at or under 100 Wh (about 27,000 mAh at 3.7 V); 100 to 160 Wh needs airline approval 33 threads
- 20K and bigger banks are heavy and often overkill for phones 23 threads
- A 5K bank covers a day or one phone charge and travels best 22 threads
- Security enforcement varies by airport; capacity and label inspections are common in Asia 22 threads
- Buy known brands only; no-name banks are the fire risk airlines cite 20 threads
- Many airlines ban using or charging a bank in flight (Singapore, Cathay, Qantas, Korean, Etihad, SAS, Lufthansa); check the carrier 20 threads
- Carry-on only; never in checked baggage 18 threads
- Magnetic/Qi2 banks are convenient but slower, hotter and lose roughly a third of the charge 18 threads
- Check the Anker recall lists (October 2024 MagGo and 20K, June 2025 PowerCore 10000 and others) before trusting an older bank 15 threads
- Idle self-discharge: banks left for months can be dead; store near 50 percent and avoid LCD models for long storage 15 threads
- A built-in cable saves a cable but is a single point of failure 12 threads
- Some airlines cap the number of banks per passenger (one on Etihad and Southwest announcements, two on AirAsia and Alaska) 11 threads
- Agents inspect, tape or bag banks and ask for the Wh label 10 threads
- Keep the bank visible or in the seat pocket / under-seat bag, not the overhead bin 8 threads
- The printed Wh/capacity on the bank must be legible; a missing rating got a bank taken at Shanghai 7 threads

## How to pack a power bank for a flight

A power bank of 100 Wh or less goes in carry-on baggage, two at most, with its terminals covered and the bank within reach in the cabin.

- Time10 minutes
- You will needPower bank of 100 Wh or less, Pouch, plastic bag or tape for the terminals, Short USB-C cable

1. Check the Wh on the label Find the Wh figure printed on the bank. If only mAh is printed, multiply mAh by 3.7 and divide by 1000. Up to 100 Wh needs no approval, over 100 and up to 160 Wh needs airline approval, and over 160 Wh is not allowed. Staff can refuse a bank whose rating they cannot read.
2. Carry two banks at most ICAO has limited each passenger to two power banks since 27 March 2026, whatever their capacity. Emirates, Etihad, flydubai and Southwest allow one, so check the airline before you pack a second bank.
3. Pack it in carry-on only, with the terminals covered Power banks and spare lithium batteries are not allowed in checked luggage. Keep each bank in its retail box, a pouch or a plastic bag, or tape over exposed terminals and ports. If a carry-on bag is checked at the gate, take the bank out first.
4. Keep it out of the overhead bin and within reach Put the bank in the seat pocket or the bag under the seat. IATA says power banks should not be stored in overhead lockers, and crew can only treat an overheating bank they can see and reach.
5. Do not recharge it from seat power Charge the bank fully before you leave for the airport. ICAO bans recharging a power bank on board, and IATA says banks must not be recharged from aircraft power.
6. Follow the airline's in-flight rule Check the airline's rule on using a bank in flight before you board. Delta, American, Southwest, Ryanair and Air New Zealand allow use with conditions, such as keeping the bank visible or pausing during taxi, take-off and landing. Emirates, Singapore Airlines and Qantas ban it.
7. Check the 3C mark for flights in China Since 28 June 2025 China has barred power banks with no 3C mark, an unclear 3C mark or a recalled model from domestic flights. Look for the CCC or 3C mark printed on the bank before you fly within China.
8. If it overheats, tell the crew If the bank gets hot, swells, smokes or smells, tell a crew member at once. Do not put it back in a bag. Crews cool a burning bank with water, which only works when they can reach it.

## Frequently asked questions

What is the best travel power bank?

The Anker 20K 87W (A1383) is the best travel power bank for most people. It holds 20,000 mAh, about 74 Wh, which is under the 100 Wh airline limit. It outputs 87 W in total and 65 W on one port, enough for a phone, a tablet or a MacBook Air, and it has a built-in USB-C cable. The INIU 10K 45W (P41) is the budget pick at $24 and 181 g.

What is the best power bank for international travel?

The Baseus 20K 45W (E00311) is the best power bank for international travel because its listing states CCC certification. China has barred power banks with no 3C mark, an unclear mark or a recalled model from domestic flights since 28 June 2025. The bank holds 20,000 mAh, about 74 Wh, and outputs 45 W through two built-in USB-C cables, a USB-C port and a USB-A port.

Can you bring a power bank on a plane?

Yes, a power bank of 100 Wh or less goes in carry-on baggage with no approval. Since 27 March 2026 ICAO limits each passenger to two power banks. A bank over 100 Wh and up to 160 Wh needs airline approval, and a bank over 160 Wh is not allowed. Cover the terminals with tape or a pouch. Airlines can set stricter rules than ICAO, so read the airline's page before you fly.

Can power banks go in checked luggage?

No, power banks must travel in carry-on baggage. TSA lists power banks as carry-on only and prohibits spare lithium batteries in checked luggage, and the FAA, ICAO, IATA and EASA say the same. If a carry-on bag is checked at the gate, take the power bank out first and keep it with you in the cabin. Keep the terminals covered with tape or a pouch.

What size power bank is allowed on a plane, and how many mAh is 100 Wh?

The limit is 100 Wh, which is about 27,000 mAh at 3.7 V. Divide 100,000 by the cell voltage to convert: 27,027 mAh at 3.7 V and 27,778 mAh at 3.6 V. A 20,000 mAh bank is about 74 Wh and a 25,000 mAh bank is about 92.5 Wh. If the case prints a Wh figure, use that one. IATA drops the 100 to 160 Wh approval route from 1 January 2027.

How many power banks can I bring on a plane?

Two. ICAO has limited each passenger to two power banks since 27 March 2026, whatever their capacity. The UK CAA applied the limit on 27 March, Hong Kong on 28 March, Taiwan on 8 April, Singapore on 15 April, Korea on 20 April and Japan on 24 April. The FAA and TSA pages read on 13 October 2026 state no two-bank limit. Emirates, Etihad, flydubai and Southwest allow one.

Can I use a power bank during a flight, or charge one on a plane?

You cannot charge a power bank from seat power: ICAO bans recharging a power bank on board and IATA says banks must not be recharged from aircraft power. ICAO recommends against using a bank to charge a phone, and each airline sets its own rule. Delta, American, Southwest, Ryanair, Air New Zealand and Philippine Airlines allow use. Emirates, Singapore Airlines and Qantas do not.

Which airlines ban using power banks in flight?

Airlines still carry power banks of 100 Wh or less, but 27 of the 34 airlines in our table ban using one in flight. They include Emirates since 1 October 2025, Qantas and Jetstar since 15 December 2025, Lufthansa Group since 15 January 2026, Cathay Pacific since 30 March 2026 and Singapore Airlines since 15 April 2026. Japan, Korea and Taiwan also ban use by regulation.

Is my power bank recalled?

Compare the model number on the bank with the recall lists, because recalls name models and serials, not brands. Anker recalled the PowerCore 10000 (A1263) on 12 June 2025 and the A1647, A1652, A1257, A1681 and A1689 on 18 September 2025. INIU recalled the BI-B41 on 5 December 2025 and Belkin the BPB002 on 13 November 2025. None of the 15 picks matches a recalled model number as of 13 October 2026.

Do power banks work abroad, and do I need an adapter or a converter?

Yes, a power bank works in every country, and its charger needs a plug adapter, not a voltage converter. Apple USB power adapters accept 100 to 240 V at 50 to 60 Hz, and most phone and laptop chargers print the same range, so only the plug shape changes. A converter is needed only for single-voltage 220 to 240 V appliances such as hair dryers. Check the input range printed on the charger.

How many times will a 10,000 or 20,000 mAh power bank charge a phone?

A 10,000 mAh bank charges an iPhone 17 about 1.6 times and a 20,000 mAh bank about 3.3 times. The estimate uses 37 Wh and 74 Wh at 3.7 V, 65% of that energy reaching the phone and a 14.2 Wh iPhone battery. For a Galaxy S25 Ultra at 19.3 Wh the counts are 1.2 and 2.4. Heat losses in the bank and in the phone cut the usable energy.

What do Reddit users recommend for a power bank?

Reddit recommends the Nitecore NB10000 most often, followed by INIU 10,000 mAh banks and Anker's MagGo magnetic line. Across 138 threads collected on 13 October 2026, Nitecore appears in 48 and INIU in 32. The most repeated advice is to carry a CCC-marked bank for China (40 threads), to stay under 100 Wh (33) and to take a 10,000 mAh bank for phone-only trips (33).
