Which countries do not need visa for mexico?

The countries that do not need visa for Mexico are the United States, Canada, Japan, The United Kingdom, and the Schengen area amongst others ¹. The complete list can be found below.

Citizens who wish to visit Mexico who are citizens from one of these countries are not required to present a visa in order to enter Mexican territory for the following non-remunerated activities:

  • Tourism
  • Transit
  • Business
  • Technical activities
  • Journalism
  • Study

The only caveat is the visit should not exceed 180 days (6 months approximately).

If you are going to Mexico for a different reason like work, or you’d like to extend your stay beyond the 180 days limit, you will need to apply for the corresponding visa.

Special cases

Cruise ships

Visitors disembarking from a cruise ship have a special 21 calendar day permission to stay at the port and explore the surrounding areas regardless of their country of origin as long as they do not participate in remunerated activities.

Permanent Residents of friendly countries

Regardless of their country of origin, visitors that can prove permanent residency status of one of the following countries, do not require a visa for non-remunerated activities. The same 180-day period limit still applies.

Visa holders of friendly countries

Regardless of their country of origin, visitors with a valid active visa issued one the following countries, do not require a visa for non-remunerated activities. The same 180-day period limit still applies.

  • Canada
  • Japan
  • United States of America
  • United Kingdom
  • Any of the countries in the Schengen Area.
