Founded in the 19th century around a railway station, the city has developed into an industrial center. It’s strategically located along the Presidente Dutra Highway, which connects Rio de Janeiro to São Paulo.

It’s known for its production of sisal fiber and livestock farming, typical economic activities of Brazil’s northeastern interior.

Quixadá

Located in central Ceará state, Quixadá is famous for its unique landscape dominated by large monolithic rock formations called inselbergs, locally known as “galinha choca” (brooding hen). The city’s name comes from the indigenous Tupi language, though its exact meaning is disputed. It’s known as the “Terra dos Monólitos” (Land of Monoliths) and has become a popular destination for rock climbing and paragliding.
